No supermodel for KES after all …
THE OLA’s Chief Archivist, Robert Childs, reports:
I am now able to share new evidence which has recently come to light to set the record straight… and even eat a large slice of humble pie. Accordingly, I should like to thank Philip Mole (KES 1964-71) for his help in his role as Chairman of the Kings Lynn/Emmerich Twinning Club. He has received information from the Chair of the Emmerich side in the 1980s who is able to confirm that there was a visit to Kings Lynn by 49 schoolchildren drawn from four schools in Emmerich in October 1981. The records in Germany do show that one member of their party was a certain Claudia Schaefer (not Schiffer).
My original source had been a Norfolk Tourist Board website where maybe someone had become a tad over-excited or careless with spelling! Perhaps it has taught anyone interested in Archives to look for three sources if possible to check out a fact to avoid accusations of fake news.
Apologies if my original article or this clarification in anyway disappoints any of our members, including our chairman, who was looking forward to inviting Ms Schiffer to join the OLA. We’re confident he will be just pleased to welcome Ms Schaefer (or indeed any other non-supermodel former KES pupil) into the fold.
