Walter Dexter’s 1936 painting of the iconic Custom House in King’s Lynn has now come home permanently. After four years of research and correspondence I hope my four-page article, Full Circle, does justice to a long journey full of remarkable coincidences including two more turning points in 1966.
1966 was a pivotal year for me as we moved from Kettering to King’s Lynn….to 35 Oak Circle in Gaywood. From the upper floor of our block of maisonettes we looked across the Circle to a row of shops and the now demolished pub the Captain Vancouver. England won the World Cup and has waited nearly 60 years so far for a reprise of this achievement.
We are indebted to the generosity of Ray Spaxman without whom we would not have been able to hold the special ceremony at the Town Hall on Monday 18 March 2024.
