Marc Starling has written another well-researched and sensitive biography, this time for ‘DES’ Smith who taught at K.E.S. from 1957-93. The respect that he earned as a teacher is certainly reflected in the memories of those to whom he taught Biology or were in the boarding house. This was confirmed by the high turnout at his funeral in 2018 despite there being relatively few family members to mark his passing.
