‘New wine in old bottles’ may suit this biography on John Leathem who, aged only 33, took over the leadership of a long-established grammar school at what proved to be a very challenging time not just for K.E.S. In his first address at Speech Day he made a strong commitment to learning, school games and activities as well as a focus on ‘turning out good citizens.’ Michael Walker’s article traces his subsequent career at Taunton School and his involvement in many local activities up to his death in 1984.
