Our three longest-serving Head Masters in recent years were: the Revd. Walter Boyce, 1887 to 1919, whose 32 years included the move to the Gaywood Road site and the Great War; Mr A H Sleigh, 1951 to 1976, whose 25 years covered a time of expansion and ultimately transition; and Mr C J L Wagstaff, 1920 to 1939, whose tenure covered the whole of what became known as the inter-war period. A biography of Charles Wagstaff is to be found in the Staff section of the Archive.
