My old pal and OLA member Graeme Parr, formerly of St Germans and now living in Australia, got in touch to say he’s mystified at the references on the website to long-serving KES history teacher John Smallwood by the nickname ‘Big Twig’.
Like myself, he can only recall his nickname ‘Japes’ (based on his initials, JPS).
“I wonder if ‘Big Twig’ came before or after our time?” asks Graeme.
John taught three generations of pupils during his long career at KES, which stretched from the 1960s through to the 1990s.
